Certification by an independent party is seeking review of the organization or a part of the organization based on a standard, in order to obtain a legitimate expectation. It's an evaluation process after the implementation of the standard which confirms that the requirements are met.
The requirements of the Caribbean Safety Standard are defined in the standards document CSS2009 and the Regulation RGL CSS2009.
Verification and monitoring of the requirements are carried out by an impartial and independent party, the certifying body. That certifying body shall prepare a report under which an opinion is given. In case of a positive assessment, a certificate is granted. After granting the certificate follow-up visits will be held every year to assess the safety management system is still compliant to the requirements.
This granted certification is valid for three years if the conditions are met. Certification of the safety management system creates confidence for the authority, the clients and customers. It also increases the efficiency of the organization and increases the involvement of employees.
